Local athletes stand out & Jrs show Peaked Mtn who’s boss….

WOW, it has been quite the month for the sport of freeride in the Teton region as well as for our local athletes.

First and foremost, a big shout out to Lars Chickering-Ayers for winning and Crystal Wright for taking  2nd  in the Freeskiing World Championships at Snowbird, UT.  Way to represent the local resorts as Lars is a Grand Targhee Resort (GTR) ambassador and Crystal is a Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) athlete.

Lars Chickering-Ayers wins Freeskiing Would Championships

Jess McMillan, JHMR athlete, finished 2nd at the Freeride World Tour stop in Verbier, Switzerland landing her 2nd overall on the tour.  Jess also finished 3rd on the Freesking World Tour overall standings were Jacqui Edgerly and  Griffen Post (JHMR athlete)finished 2nd.

Grand Targhee Resort just held the 3rd annual Grand Targhee Jr Freesking Open with great success.  Around 90 athletes displayed their skills in Reliable on day 1, with many moving on to day 2 where their skiing in Bobcat was quite the show.  This event was some of the best display of jr freeskiing I have ever seen or heard about.  Fast technical lines, good skiing, and some wild jibs down at the bottom.

Casey Rose, the men’s 12-14 champion and Stoke Award Buckle winner, exemplified what this young sport is about; having fun in your lines, safely pushing your own limits, and great technical skiing!

John Collinson, the men’s 15-17 champion, received the highest lines scores of the event showing that he feels very comfortable in varying conditions and exposure (as if his world class mountaineering resume didn’t already show this).

Jaelin Kauf, GTR local and women’s 12-14 champion, skied so well on day one (posting a score that rivaled many of the fellas) that the two runs on day two were basically very technical and smart victory laps!

Silas Chickering-Ayers, also at GTR local, took home 3rd in the men’s 15-17 division, and lived up to the very impressive standard his older brother (Lars)  has paved for them.

See results from the event below!
