Mid week….weekend.

So at the moment my “weekend” consists of Wednesdays, Thursdays and a few other random days here and there.  This weekend I was able to get out and shoot photos on day one and then hopped on for a day of cat skiing at Grand Targhee on day two.

Weekend Day 1 (Wednesday January 19th): Photographer and friend, Gabe Rogel, stopped by and picked me up at 8am.  We headed up to the Ghee where we met up with fellow Targhee athlete, Max Mackenzie, heading into the parking lot rocks area.  Right off the bat, we headed to a pretty steep pillow rock face.  We stood on top of a good sized pillow with a pretty flat landing and exposure below.

Deciding to opt for a less aggressive air I aired in a bit lower into soft pow and proceed to talk Max into airing in at the original spot.  For some reason he listened to me and aired in with enough momentum to carry him to the edge of the exposure to follow.  In fact, he was able to self arrest, coming to a stop with both of his feet hanging over the edge of the face below.

We then headed up to Peaked Mountain’s north face where we made a few laps skiing/shooting lines from Toilet Bowl on down to the Bidet.  We finished out the day shooting some super cool photos in a place called Poachers Paradise.  Yes, we had permission…..thank you GTSP!  Click on this thumbnail to check out the POV vid of a few of the lines from this day in the fog……

Weekend Day 2 (Thursday January 20th): After a few early week storms and roomers of a possible clear sky, my Dad and I decided that Thursday might be a good day to use a cat skiing voucher that we had been saving for a “snowy” day.  This proved to be a good decision as the weather cleared for a morning of bluebird cat access pow right under the Tetons.  It was a lot of fun to enjoy a day of untacked pow turns with my Dad.  9 runs off of the cat and about 17,000 ft of vert later……..POV vid to come so keep checkin in!  A big thanks to Grand Targhee Cat Skiing, our driver Richie, and our guides Walshy & EA!!!!
